Chances are, if you're running a forced induction system you're going to need a stronger clutch to handle the additional power. From our experience we have always found performances clutches to be a compromise over the standard unit. Some have an extremely stiff pedal, which is not good for the cylinder seals, never mind your
left leg. Some have 'on/off' engagement making driving in traffic a challenge with juddery take up. And some are just down-right expensive. Sure, most will hold the power, but take away from the driving pleasure.

SPEC Performance Clutch Kits
We spent a lot of time researching different options and seeking out personal experiences. Finally we heard of SPEC. They were little known within the MX-5 community but this didn't deter us. Soon we learned that SPEC knew how to build clutches rather than just clamp an organic disc harder. They take a OEM type pressure plate (like Exedy) and modify to their specifications which results in the necessary clamping force, but the unnecessary heavy pedal. On their Stage 2 clutch kits they take it a step further and use a full-faced Kevlar based disc to provide a higher rated clutch. The result? A slightly heavier pedal than stock, with smooth engagement.
So what's the compromise I hear you say? Well, as always there is one. The clutches have to be run-in for 500-miles with no boost. Once this temporary procedure is out of the way you have a clutch you can live with everyday. Includes release and pilot bearings and alignment tool. SPEC Clutches are now the UK's most popular clutch for powerful MX-5s!
