Turbocharger Systems for the 21st Century

For more than 10 years Flyin' Miata have set the standards in MX-5 turbocharger performance and their infamous kits have been renowned for performance and reliability. So why the change?

Most of the manufacturing was looked after by BEGI (Bell Engineering Group, Inc.) and whilst FM refined the kit over many years there was still issues with fit and inconsistent quality. It's not until you've installed numerous kits that you realise how much 'customising' you have to perform to get certain parts installed. Now FM have brought manufacturing under their direct control which will enable accurate production techniques and better materials.

One of the main changes is the manifold and turbine outlet. These have been redesigned in SolidWords with emphasis on internal flow and ease of fit, you can now use a spanner on each nut! The turbine outlet features a divorced wastegate for better flow, but will also be a cast piece rather than welded tube which was prone to cracking and misfit on the old FM kits. Each piece is cast from NiResist using the precise shell casting technique.

It's not just the manifold that is getting an overhaul. There will be a number of intercooler designs and options and all pipework will be polished mandrel-bent lightweight stainless steel or custom moulded silicon hoses.

But power is nothing without control. Long gone are the days of crude management systems like rising rate fuel pressure systems that get assigned to the trash when you come to upgrade and there are some cutting edge management systems being tested by P5. We also understand that most cannot make the financial leap straight into FM2 power territory and there will be options to suit most pockets, with a seamless upgrade path for those that want it.

The new downpipes are finished. Polished stainless steel mandrel bent next to the old design mild steel welded pipe. They are so good they now carry a lifetime guarantee.

The final casting will have a cleaner finish cast from NiResist, and won't be grey!

The new downpipes have a shared front section and 4 rear section options.
Versions will be available for 1990-3, 1994-7 and 1999+. The fourth option allows an 1800 CAT to be used on the 1600 system for a full 2.5" system.
These are full mandrel bent to avoid potential failure points from welds and their accuracy negates the use of a flex-joint. The finished version will be fully polished.

The new intercooler will have cast, polished end tanks and a new fixing system for exceptional longevity.
The compressor outlet pipe is formed from reinforced custom silicon hose that insulates the charged air from the exhaust manifold and allows full engine movement.
The single section is easier to install and eliminates joints that are potential points for the hose to blow apart.
